All things are interconnected. To feel better, you have to act better. To feel better, you have to think better. To think better, you have to feel better. To act better, you have to think better. To think, feel, and act better, you have to care for your physical health. To care for your physical health, you have to think, feel, and act better. Each affects the other. However, the aspect we have most direct control over is what we do—our acting. While we can influence others, we cannot control them. Much conflict and unhappiness come from trying to control others. For better relationships, the only thing we control is what we do, how we choose to relate. We are responsible for our actions; others are responsible for theirs. Accepting this reality and thinking, feeling, and acting accordingly increases our experience of power, freedom, belonging, meaning, and fun. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. My professional experience includes 28 years of post-Master’s clinical work, including leadership roles in foster care, chemical abuse and addiction, inpatient and outpatient mental health services, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and hospitalization. I have worked with individuals from age three through the elderly. I have extensive experience with youth and families, diverse populations, and a wide range of life issues, providing services in family homes, schools, juvenile detention facilities, jails, outpatient clinics, and inpatient psychiatric facilities. I have provided short- and long-term clinical services, crisis intervention, and facilitated psychiatric hospitalizations. Additionally, I have provided clinical supervision and training to licensed and unlicensed therapists, contributed to community education, and participated in government task forces focusing on gang affiliation, substance use, truancy, and delinquency.
