Getting to know Richard Loutfi

Struggling with anxiety, constant stress, or feeling overwhelmed by work or life transitions? You don’t have to manage it alone. I work with adults and veterans who want practical tools to feel more in control, less reactive, and more confident in daily life. My approach is supportive, structured, and goal-oriented. In our work together, we focus on understanding what’s driving your stress, identifying unhelpful patterns, and building strategies you can actually use outside of session. I draw from evidence-based methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based strategies, and relapse prevention skills when appropriate. Therapy is collaborative, and we move at a pace that feels manageable while still making meaningful progress. I also work with clients navigating cultural identity stress and adjustment challenges, including individuals from Levantine and Middle Eastern backgrounds. You’re welcome to speak in Levantine or Egyptian Arabic. I hold an M.S.Ed. from Hunter College and completed advanced training in Mental Health Counseling through the University at Buffalo. I am also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), and Certified Victim Advocate.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I can help you understand what's driving your anxiety or stress and build practical tools you can use right away. Sessions are collaborative, nonjudgmental, and focused on measurable progress at a pace that feels manageable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start by identifying what you’re experiencing, what’s keeping it going, and what you want to change. Then we set clear goals and focus on strategies you can apply between sessions, making real life improvement.
