What should a new client know about working with you?

In my work with clients I try to bring the mindfulness, compassion, and lightness necessary for us to go to deeper places and make real progress. It's important for us to determine what really matters to you, what's been getting in the way, and how we can neutralize those issues.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first couple of sessions we will start getting to know each other and clarifying the problem. We'll work on identifying useful skills and a an appropriate treatment plan. Many of my clients are interested in EMDR therapy to address the lingering impacts of past experiences. The duration and course of this therapy will vary depending on each client's unique situation. This therapy typically begins with building client strengths and coping skills to facilitate processing and minimize risk of adverse reactions. Other modalities may be integrated including Internal Family Systems (aka parts work), mindfulness and compassion, and cognitive restructuring. For non-EMDR clients, we will work to identify the various factors continue to the client's problem(s) and identify skills and strategies to resolve these issues. My approach integrates a variety of evidence-based practices including EMDR, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Skills, Motivational Interviewing, Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Positive Psychology.
