Richard A. Villa is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor, a Master Addictions Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and a Certified School Counselor in Virginia who has been practicing since 1991. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and holds a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. Richard has also completed all coursework for his PhD in General Educational Psychology at Walden University and hopes to finalize his program soon.
Richard has served as a Military and Family Life Counselor at various military installations both in the United States and abroad. Additionally, he has taught psychology courses at Navarro College and Texas A&M University. He has a diverse mental health and substance abuse background and experience, including leadership roles in the Community Supervision and Corrections Department in Texas.
In the academic field, Richard has served as a counselor at all levels of academia, working with students from elementary through university age. He has also worked as an Employee Assistance Professional with a Virginia school system and county agency and managed an HIV intervention and prevention program. Previously, Richard was employed as a Behavioral Health Assessment Specialist in a psychiatric emergency center and emergency medical center for several years. He has gained experience as a case manager with a managed care organization and worked as a private practice therapist with several community counseling organizations.
Richard has volunteered his time with various organizations serving community, governmental, and local populations, including law enforcement, diversity, and mental health initiatives. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, painting, and caring for animals (pets).
