Rick Amaral, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CT
My name is Rick Amaral, ACSW, LCSW. Let me begin by fully introducing myself and sharing my years of experience as a clinician, manager, and director. I have been working with children, teens, and adults in many different formats (individual, family, group work) for over 30 years in both private practice and local community mental health agencies. I am also an Adjunct Professor at local colleges, where I have taught psychology and sociology courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels for more than 20 years. In our sessions, I aim to use a strengths-based approach that works alongside you to identify areas you would like to focus on. Acknowledging that all cars come with rearview mirrors, I like to spend time hearing from you about past life events and journeys that have contributed to your development, both positively and otherwise. My preferred way of assisting you is through a Life Narrative format. Such narratives allow for many chapters-some written, many left to be written. When appropriate, I provide psycho-educational information on topics of interest, such as diagnosis, skill building, coping skills, and mindfulness. I also share local and community supports that you can draw upon after our time together has ended.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
