Psychotherapist
CT
Hi there, I'm Rikkia! I have been in practice for 10 years as a trained Expressive Arts Therapist and Mental Health Counselor. My approach to therapy is collaborative and strength-based. I believe that you are the source of your own happiness, and I am here to help facilitate that journey back to yourself. As an artist at heart, I utilize art modalities such as movement, poetry, journaling, and sound. I am EMDR trained, a modality particularly helpful for reprocessing traumatic memories. My approach includes EMDR Therapy, meditation and somatic theories, Solution-Based Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral theories, and Attachment theories. I am also a certified facilitator of Circle of Security, a visual map of attachment. John Bowlby, the ?father? of attachment theory, said: "Intimate attachments to other human beings are the hub around which a person's life revolves, not only as an infant or a toddler or a schoolchild but throughout adolescence and years of maturity as well, and on into old age. From these intimate attachments a person draws strength and enjoyment of life and, through what he contributes, gives strength and enjoyment to others. These are matters about which current science and traditional wisdom are at one." (Bowlby, J. (1980) Attachment and Loss: Volume 1. Attachment. Basic Books: New York.) I love to work with mothers struggling with mental health and addiction, and I have worked extensively with young adults navigating identity and career choices. When you work with me, it's like working with an old friend. I create an intimate relationship based on mutual respect, kindness, and joy.
