Getting to know Rishika Singh

I have five years of training in therapy with LGBTQ clients, folks living with HIV, and gender affirming care through my work at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Callen-Lorde Community Health Center. Through our work together, you can expect to find resolution to inner conflict and feel more grounded in your core sense of self. Through emotions-focused, somatically-attuned work we will go beyond analyzing to reach deeper healing. In relationship therapy, we will bridge the gap in understanding to build a more secure connection.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I aim to help you tune into how you're truly feeling, while centering radical self-compassion. Healing and liberation come in many different forms and we will work collaboratively to understand your individual path. Ours will be an open space, free of judgment, to explore thoughts and feelings you may not otherwise have a place to address. One of the first steps toward healing is being seen and heard authentically and in our work together we will begin there. Many of the things we struggle with most can also be our greatest assets. The discipline that helps someone work toward their goals may also show up as rigidity, just as the sensitivity we’ve learned to feel ashamed of can be a superpower in empathy and self-awareness - think of these as two sides of the same coin. Therapy can be a space to understand how to amplify our strengths while also identifying long-standing patterns of thought and behavior that are no longer serving us. If you are seeking extra support through difficulties you are facing, have the desire to break out of patterns that you have outgrown, or looking for a collaborator in working towards growth, I look forward to being a part of your journey. I will both support and challenge you along the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You deserve to feel good, not just okay, but genuinely at ease. Therapy can provide a unique opportunity to heal wounds of the past, and move beyond survival to contentment and happiness. You may have grown used to holding your feelings inside, even when it feels heavy. You may be committed to understanding yourself but feel frustrated by recurring patterns that seem stuck. You may also have tried therapy in the past and gained valuable self-awareness, but are looking to deepen your healing journey. Most often, the ways we relate to and manage our emotions are learned gradually over the course of our lives, often outside our conscious awareness. Therapy with use helps you uncover underlying emotional and relational patterns and develop new, intentional ways of being. This can be especially transformative for those looking to heal from past trauma or break generational patterns.
