Robert Bergen, LCSW

Robert Bergen, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
My specialties include the treatment of depression, anxiety, destructive and self-defeating behaviors, and the many unique forms of inner anguish that defy formal categorization. Within my scope as well are the compelling problems engendered by situations that were once somehow manageable for the client but have suddenly become overwhelming-a failing relationship, an escalating parenting or school problem, increasing reliance on substances, and many others. I have much experience treating the range of symptoms that commonly accompany significant life changes or transitions such as illness, personal losses, depression, and the impact of aging. Critical to my approach is an attunement to the many unique forms of anguish that can elude a practitioner and escape even the client's identification. When hidden suffering is uncovered in the course of the therapeutic process, it can finally be addressed and managed. It is my conviction that the inherent dignity of every client must be honored at all times. In a warm, accepting environment, I help my clients identify their problems, draw upon their inner strengths, and restore the sense of purpose and direction that has eluded them for so long.
