Getting to know Robert Brennan

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help facilitate positive emotional growth. Focusing on client needs and developing strengths rather than past setbacks is most important. The counseling process should provide clients with a safe place to tell their story and foster a renewed sense of purpose. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, a Master of Education from Suffolk University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Bryant University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have an easy going personality and take clients where they are at within the counseling process. I have 7 years professional experience treating clients with a wide variety of mental health conditions, including Attention Deficit Disorders, grief, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, intrusive thoughts, trauma and anxiety. I also enjoy helping clients with marriage/couples therapy and vocational counseling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients should be more intentional after sessions. They should be more comfortable processing feelings and feel more grounded. Clients will feel differently about themselves, their mental health and their future after counseling.

We are very happy with Robert's services. Not only is he helpful but he is accommodating and responsive.
I'd say something and he would repeat the same few things over and over without stopping to take a breath for 5-10 minutes at a time. I think I spoke seven sentences the entire time we met. He was also over ten minutes late. He also seems to have some real internalized thoughts about gender roles, that men aren't emotional like women are and have to be taught to pretend to have emotions around their partners, something women need to understand (or that was what I gathered during one of his monologues...also strangely unrelated to what was being discussed, but he went to Liberty University so once I learned that the gender role thing made a lot of sense). None of what he offered seemed to have a root in psychology and seemed like something my Grandpa would say after a few beers. I'd stay away.
