Getting to know Robert Carroll

I have 40 years of experience since completing my clinical training in 1983. I hold a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Georgia, completed Clinical Pastoral Education and a Residency in Pastoral Counseling at Georgia Baptist Medical Center, and earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. Please note, if you are in crisis or if someone else may be in danger, virtual therapy is not a good fit. For immediate help, call 988 to reach The National Suicide and Crisis Prevention Lifeline.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have studied and practiced multiple approaches to therapy and the process of growth and development. These approaches include psychoanalytic, object relations, brief therapy, ericksonian hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, the wisdom of the enagram, alcohol and drug treatment and interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy as well as experiential family therapy. Couples therapy and sex therapy. Spiritual counseling.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have found that the most important dimension of successful therapy is the respect connection and compatibility between client and therapist. I seek to know connect with and understand a client's life experience strengths and weaknesses in order to support the clients desired outcomes in the process of the therapeutic relationship. Recent research indicates that safety and connection are essential to growth, development and change.
