What should a new client know about working with you?

I love to team together with you to find the best ways for you to move forward in your life, to find meaning and purpose, and to make life enjoyable. Depending upon your needs, we might work on an action plan for moving towards a meaningful career or healing painful memories or building self confidence and It will be based upon your individual needs. I work a lot with young people finding their way forward in this challenging environment we live in today. This can mean helping in the discernment process of sorting out your feelings about various careers. It could also mean creating a vision of the work you wish to pursue. Or it could mean helping you find resources for developing job skills, increasing self confidence and communication skills. I also work with people who have suffered childhood trauma. We do this by learning self compassion and working with the parts of you that act as protectors and the parts that have been hurt or traumatized. Internal Family Systems is a good framework for how I work with trauma by helping you to accept, befriend and also reparent these parts that have kept you stuck.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I like to begin with a short meditation / prayer time of five minutes to allow you to ground and connect with yourself and your Higher Power, True Self. . I will often then use mindfulness in an exploration of your feelings to help you access aspects of yourself. Then I will ask you about how your week has gone and how things we have worked on in prior sessions have helped. Based on this, we will explore your next steps. I like to give homework because this helps you to keep the work going in between our sessions. At the end of our season, I like to have feedback from you as to how the therapy is going and how I might better serve you going forward.
