Robert Gould, LPC

Psychotherapist
MO
I work with people of all ages and genders, and my goal is to help my clients live their best lives in the way that feels right for them. No matter the reason for seeking counseling, I believe that each person is the expert on their own life. My role is to walk alongside them, offering support and guidance as they navigate life's challenges. I do this with respect and unconditional positive regard, whether we're using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to tackle unhelpful thought patterns, Psychodynamic Therapy to break free from past issues, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to create meaningful behavior changes. I approach therapy with the belief that while there are many therapeutic methods out there, not all of them fit every person or situation. What sets me apart is my commitment to letting the client's needs guide the approach, rather than trying to fit them into a pre-chosen model of therapy. The goal is always to meet clients where they are! I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively. I offer flexible booking times, including evenings and weekends, and I look forward to the chance to work with anyone I have the privilege of meeting. I have space for new clients, offer online sessions only, and recommend that prospective clients schedule a free 15-minute intro call. I will work with you and your insurer to find a reasonable accommodation. Please inquire.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach therapy with the belief that while there are many therapeutic methods out there, not all of them fit every person or situation. What sets me apart is my commitment to letting your unique needs guide the approach, rather than fitting you into a one-size-fits-all model of therapy. This means I take the time to listen and understand where you’re at in your life, what you’re struggling with, and how you best respond to different techniques. I’m flexible and open in my approach—whether you need something more structured, like cognitive-behavioral therapy, or a more exploratory, talk-based method, we’ll find what works best for you. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are and help you move at your own pace toward healing and growth. You can expect a collaborative process where your input is valued, and we adjust strategies as your needs evolve. Ultimately, I believe that therapy works best when it’s a true partnership. We’ll navigate this journey together, creating a space that feels comfortable, empowering, and tailored just for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process for working with clients is all about creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space. In our first session, I like to start by getting to know you—your background, goals, and what brings you to counseling. From there, we’ll work together to outline the issues you'd like to address, and we’ll set clear, realistic goals based on your needs. Throughout our time together, I use a mix of evidence-based approaches, tailored to fit your unique situation. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust strategies as needed, making sure you always feel supported and in control of your journey. The focus is always on your personal growth, healing, and self-discovery, and I’m here to guide you every step of the way!
