What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in working with couples and men. I combine thorough assessments with practical steps forward and productive accountability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first appointment typically involves introducing ourselves, a review of the intake forms, and discussing in detail what brought you to counseling. From here, we work together to develop a practical, actionable plan to address your concerns. At the end of the first appointment, I typically provide a practical coping skill to start things in a good direction and start to provide immediate relief. Ongoing appointments continue this process. Time is often focused on clarifying values, identifying roadblocks to progress, and developing a plan to address these roadblocks. Counseling with couples follows the same general format, but within the Gottman framework. Much time is spent on identifying and resolving roadblocks to effective communication. This allows for the couple to learn how to effectively navigate conflict, hurt, and pain without the need for a counselor to "be a referee" for every argument or disagreement.
