Getting to know Robert Matoney III

Hello! I'm Bobby Matoney, LMHC, a licensed psychotherapist with a background in human development, creative arts, and evidence-based clinical care. I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, relationship dynamics, identity exploration, burnout, and trauma recovery. My practice is affirming, collaborative, and deeply human. Clients often describe our work together as both insightful and grounding. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based approaches, always tailored to your unique goals and story. Whether you're processing a life transition, untangling self-limiting patterns, or seeking a space to feel heard without judgment, I’m here to support your growth. My style is relational, warm, and gently challenging—I believe in the power of therapy to not only heal, but to transform. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. I look forward to working with you:)

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is a space where your full humanity is welcome—messiness, brilliance, contradictions and all. My style is warm, collaborative, and insight-oriented. You can expect to be both supported and gently challenged. I’m not a blank screen-I’m engaged, thoughtful, and always listening for patterns, meaning, and possibility. In our work, we’ll explore not just “what’s wrong,” but what’s true about your needs, your relationships, your fears, and your longings. We will walk together to shift unhelpful patterns and reconnect with yourself in more empowered ways. Sessions are tailored to you, but I believe in starting where you are and building toward where you want to go. No pressure to show up “put together” - just come as you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are designed to help us get to know you—your story, your struggles, your strengths, and what brought you to therapy now. I’ll ask thoughtful questions better to understand your emotional landscape, history, and goals. This is a collaborative space; I want your experience to feel meaningful, not mechanical. As we continue, sessions typically blend open dialogue with structured reflection. We might unpack relationship dynamics, process emotional patterns, or practice new skills. I draw from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and relational approaches, but I always adapt to your unique needs. Some sessions may feel deep and introspective, others more focused and practical. My role is to track your progress, hold space for insight, and offer tools that support both healing and growth. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and you are not a diagnosis—you are a full, complex human being.
