Getting to know Robert Meeker

If you are struggling with low mood or mood swings, anxiety and worry, overthinking or being stuck in your head, or difficulty connecting with others, I can help. I work with adolescents and adults and am passionate about supporting men in expanding emotional connection with themselves and their loved ones. I am skilled at working with clients experiencing big life transitions, career changes or stress and clients navigating their ADHD. I often help folks find relief and tap into a meaningful life guided by their values. I also enjoy working with clients who are experiencing spiritual struggle or difficulties related to religion. With lifelong curiosity about the diversity of human experience, I am committed to a careful, respectful, and celebratory approach to cultural difference in therapy. I strive to see clients through a holistic lens, to collaborate in clarifying what clients care most about, and to help expand the capacity to live out these values. I earned a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina. I also completed post-baccalaureate studies in Psychology, with a particular interest in Contemplative Science. I have completed research work in the fields of Medical and Psychological Anthropology.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Specializing in mindfulness-based therapies, I have a passion for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy and DBT. My graduate studies focused on these therapies and I have past experience as an ACT research assistant with Portland Psychotherapy Clinic. Because creative arts can aid in the development of emotional skills, I like to incorporate music in the therapeutic process when appropriate.
