Hi there, I'm Robert! I'm Bob Thompson, MSW, LCSW, with a Master's in Social Work from Capella University. I work from a Person-In-Environment and Systems Approach to walk beside clients in their journey to healing, meaning, and purpose. I work with both couples and individuals, specializing in trauma, substance use, depression, anxiety disorders, and couples issues. My approach Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy My focus I work with couples and individuals. I am most comfortable and effective treating PTSD and trauma, substance use, anxiety disorders, depression, and couples issues. My communication style I have been described as providing a safe, secure, calm, serene, and trusting environment for clients. I have been told that I come across as sincere, and through that, make clients feel heard and accepted for who they are. Clients report feeling unconditional positive regard when working with me. My journey to mental healthcare My personal history has presented me with many of the challenges that my clients face. I have sought to live out Viktor Frankl's concept of “redeeming my pain” to find purpose and meaning in my life. I am driven to do this work to help others redeem their own pain and find their own purpose and meaning. My goals for you The practical creation of goal setting follows the SMART goal format: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound. Goals are those of the client and reached through a collaborative process led by the client. Goals will be based on what the client wants to achieve in the allotted time we have been given to achieve them. My first session with you Clients should expect the first session to focus on building rapport between the client and me, a discussion of the presenting problem, and the beginning-and possible completion-of the bio-psychosocial assessment.
