Getting to know Roberta Gelfand

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NJ and NY, counseling people as they change their lives. I've worked with clients with various concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, relationship issues, and life-changing situations. I understand how difficult opening up can be and that finding the right person to talk with is essential. My therapy style is empathetic, genuine, mindful, and direct. I offer a warm, safe environment to discuss any issues my clients may be experiencing. Individual therapy offers a supportive space to explore what’s beneath the surface—anxiety, burnout, self-doubt, or patterns that no longer serve you. Together, we’ll identify what’s holding you back, process emotions, and build tools for clarity, resilience, and change. This is your space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and grow. I'm here to support you. Together, we can break free from the stress cycle and release the negative patterns holding you back. You deserve a joyful and fulfilling life, and I’m here to help you achieve it.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York and New Jersey. I’ve supported individuals from all walks of life through anxiety, trauma, ADHD, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My work is grounded in an integrative approach, combining cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, somatic, and psychodynamic therapies to fit your unique needs. My focus is on helping adults build psychological flexibility and take meaningful, value-driven action. Therapy with me is active, collaborative, and rooted in honesty, humor, and compassion. I’m not the kind of therapist who simply nods and agrees—I’m here to challenge you gently, celebrate your progress, and help you make real, lasting changes. If you’re ready to dive in, I’m here to help you make the most of it. Together, we’ll work toward the version of your life that feels more aligned—with your values, your strengths, and your sense of self.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is about getting to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and how we can work together. There's no pressure to share everything all at once—we go at your pace. The intake session is usually 60 minutes. Most clients meet once a week for a 45-minute session. I do not accept medical insurance. If you choose to submit a claim to your insurance, I can provide you with a "superbill" that documents all attended sessions and fees paid for any out-of-network benefits.

In-network insurances

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Initial session: $200 for 60 minutes
