Robin Jefferson, SW

Psychotherapist
NJ
Clients can expect a warm, collaborative, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where their experiences are heard, respected, and explored with care. My style is practical as well as supportive. While therapy provides space to process emotions and experiences, I also believe in helping clients develop skills they can use in their everyday lives. We'll work together to identify what matters most to you, understand patterns that may be contributing to your concerns, recognize your strengths, and develop effective tools for change. I view therapy as a partnership. Your feedback matters, and I value open communication about your goals, progress, concerns, and changing needs throughout treatment. With more than 20 years of experience in mental health and substance use treatment, I understand that change doesn't always happen in a straight line. We'll work at a pace that respects where you are while continuing to move toward the goals that are meaningful to you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) with more than 20 years of experience in the mental health and substance use fields. Our work begins with me taking time to understand your history, current concerns, strengths, relationships, support systems, previous treatment experiences when applicable, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, we'll establish treatment goals that feel realistic and meaningful to you and identify therapeutic strategies that best fit your needs. We'll regularly check in on your progress and discuss what's working, what isn't, and whether your goals or treatment approach need to change. I tailor each session to meet you where you are while helping you work toward greater resilience, personal growth, and long-term stability.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what brought you to therapy and what you would like to change. We'll discuss your current concerns, relevant history, strengths, relationships, support systems, and previous experiences with mental health or substance use treatment when appropriate. You don't need to arrive with perfectly defined goals. If you know that something isn't working but aren't sure exactly what needs to change, we can explore that together. We'll begin identifying goals and discussing which therapeutic approaches may be most helpful for you. You'll also have an opportunity to ask questions and determine whether you feel comfortable with me and my therapeutic approach.
