Roger Peterson, LPC

Roger Peterson, LPC

Psychotherapist
NJ
I see therapy as providing three main benefits: * Better understanding of how you got where you are and why you are the way you are. * Healing from emotional and psychological injuries and solving problems that prevent you from being a happier person. * Gaining greater clarity about what might make you happier and starting to work toward realizing your full potential. I would describe my approach to therapy as integrative and humanistic. Some of the main forms of therapy I use include Person Centered, Existential, Psychodynamic, Jungian, Cognitive, and Reality Therapy. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and have worked in the mental health field since 1989.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide individual psychotherapy for adults. Appointments are weekly. I don't see clients in-person, provide couples therapy, see children or adolescents, or provide family therapy. Please assume that the appointment time I post is the only time I have available to see you. I see clients via the Internet only. I provide weekly 55 minute individual psychotherapy sessions. Appointment times, when available, will fall within Monday through Thursday from 9AM through 1PM, and on Sunday 10AM through 12PM. Clients must have Horizon BCBS of NJ, Aetna, or United Healthcare. I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare, including HMO managed Medicaid or Medicare. The opportunity book an appointment will fall on Monday through Thursday. This is in order to give me adequate time to verify insurance, which is essential to determine if I can see you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After you book your appointment, I will reach out to you within 24 hours to schedule a phone chat to determine if the services I provide will meet your needs, and to try to make sure that your insurance is in network. Our sessions will be via telehealth using the Simple Practice streaming app. Simple Practice will send you a reminder with the link 48 and 24 hours prior to each session. To join you'll simply click the link with any smart device equipped with camera and microphone. My approach is integrative. I draw mainly from Humanistic, Existential, Jungian, Reality Therapy, Psychodynamic, Person Centered, and Cognitive Behavioral therapies. Three main areas of focus I typically work on with clients are: 1) better understand how you got to be the person you are, 2) heal from emotional and psychological injuries and solve problems that prevent you from being happier, and 3) gain greater insight and clarity on what will potentially make you happier and how to realistically work toward that.
