Getting to know Roman Michael Franzen

I believe that each person has the capacity to create change in their lives and overcome shame and negative self-talk. Together, we'll create a safe and compassionate space where you can explore your emotions and experiences, identify limiting beliefs, and break free from self-sabotaging patterns. With a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, my goal is to support you as you move towards a more joyful and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I focus in on shame—that horrid feeling that makes you want to lock that part of you in a prison in a forgotten room in your head. I also have a special interest in all things sex, sexuality, and gender. It’s so easy for us to ignore these things and pretend they don’t exist because of the amount of shame and stigma that they come with. I prioritize making my space affirming and safe for people to talk about the nitty gritty of life without any judgment. I know you’d like to feel lighter, freer, and more connected and accepting of yourself. Let’s get you there. I love watching people grow and learn how to do life with empowerment and self-acceptance. Seeing shame and guilt lifted and watching people find freedom makes me LEAP out of bed every day. I aim to provide a safe and understanding space to discuss any and all issues you may be facing, and to provide services with a sex-positive, affirming and inclusive attitude. I believe that everyone deserves a hand on their journey to healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a therapist, I act as a supportive and non-judgmental guide in the journey towards self-improvement. I assist my clients in developing the skills and tools they need to move forward with confidence and strength, and help them to experience a renewed sense of self-assurance. Through our shared process, my aim is to encourage my clients to continue growing and improving even after our sessions together have concluded.
