Ronan Wolfsdorf, LICSW

Psychotherapist
825 Beacon Street, Suite 7, Newton Centre, MA
My practice focuses on men dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma/PTSD, and often relationship issues. You may feel that something important is missing in your life or that you are distressed and discouraged. My goal with each patient is to form a supportive therapeutic relationship that helps you work through difficulties to gain a clear sense of your needs and purpose. I assist patients by respectfully collaborating to uncover and address long-standing issues and patterns that have gotten in the way. Patients often struggle with relationship stresses, work and life transitions, and issues around identity and loss. My approach is eclectic and pragmatic, supporting patients' insight and understanding of the roots of their distress. I received training at Harvard-teaching hospitals and U.S. and European universities, including Simmons University (Master's in Social Work), the University of Chicago: Hyde Park (Master's), University College London (Bachelor's), and Tufts University (Master's).

Getting to know Ronan Wolfsdorf

My practice focuses on men dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma/PTSD, and often relationship issues. You may feel that something important is missing in your life or that you are distressed and discouraged. I assist patients by respectfully collaborating to uncover and address long-standing issues and patterns that have gotten in the way. Patients often struggle with relationship stresses, work and life transitions, and issues around identity and loss. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is eclectic, yet draws on psychodynamic and relational techniques that help patients form insights into their struggles and problematic patterns, self regulate comfortably, and exercise their agency. Prior institutional affiliation: Children's Hospital Boston, Massachusetts Mental Health Center, Boston Psychoanalytic Institute, PINE Psychoanalytic Society, the Fay School. University of Chicago, University of London, Tufts University, Simmons College, as well terms at Harvard University, Columbia University, and University of Rome.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I have a core respect for patients and an appreciation for the duress that accompanies their seeking psychotherapy; and with that in mind I am gentle, if occasionally direct, supportive and kind, if sometimes seeking humor or lightness. I am hopeful and purposeful, but also analytical, curious, and able often to synthesize disparate pieces of a person's story and experience to help establish important connections. In psychotherapy, a patient and a therapist work with the familiar and the unfamiliar, identified patterns and historical facts, one's emergent biography, as well as material that has not been discussed perhaps ever, and possibly not thought about by the patient; as well as emergent feelings, aspirations, concerns that have not been considered or processed.
