Ronella Ellis, LMFT, MS

Psychotherapist
CT
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience supporting adults, couples, and families through stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, anxiety, grief, burnout, identity exploration, and communication challenges. My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and grounded in helping clients better understand the patterns shaping their emotional, relational, and personal lives. I work with clients who want more than symptom management. Many of the people I support are seeking clarity, healthier boundaries, stronger self-trust, improved relationships, and a deeper sense of alignment in how they live, love, lead, and make decisions. I bring a systemic lens to care, which means I consider the impact of family history, culture, identity, relationships, work stress, community, and life experiences on present-day wellness. My clinical style is warm, direct, reflective, and practical. I help clients slow down enough to understand what is happening internally, while also identifying concrete steps toward healthier choices and sustainable change. In sessions, we may explore communication patterns, emotional regulation, boundaries, grief, trauma-related stress, relational conflict, self-worth, and the ways past experiences continue to influence current behavior. I am especially passionate about supporting clients who feel overextended, under-supported, misunderstood, or caught between who they have been expected to be and who they are becoming. My goal is to provide a space where clients can feel respected, challenged, and supported as they develop greater honesty, accountability, safety, and trust within themselves and their relationships. I welcome clients who are ready to engage thoughtfully in the therapy process and build insight that translates into meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, reflective, and practical. I will listen closely, but I will also ask direct questions that help us move beyond surface concerns and identify the patterns, beliefs, stressors, and relationship dynamics shaping your current experience. My style is warm, grounded, and honest. I do not believe therapy should feel passive or vague. You can expect a space where your experiences are respected, while also being invited to examine what may need to shift. Together, we will work toward greater self-awareness, emotional clarity, healthier boundaries, stronger communication, and more intentional decision-making. I use a systemic and culturally responsive approach, which means I consider the full context of your life: family history, relationships, identity, work stress, culture, community, and the systems that impact your well-being. When appropriate, I may offer reflection exercises, communication tools, or practical steps to help you apply what we discuss between sessions. I work best with clients who are willing to be curious, honest, and actively engaged in their own growth. Therapy with me is not about judgment or quick fixes. It is about creating meaningful insight, building trust in yourself, and developing changes that can hold up in real life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session, I focus on understanding what brings you to therapy, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant history, relationships, stressors, strengths, and goals for care. I also pay attention to what feels most urgent while helping us identify the deeper patterns that may need attention over time. A typical session may include reflection, direct questions, emotional processing, skill-building, and practical planning. Depending on your needs, we may explore communication patterns, boundaries, family or relationship dynamics, grief, stress, anxiety, identity, life transitions, or unresolved experiences that continue to affect you. My process is collaborative. We will clarify goals, track progress, and adjust the focus as needed. I may offer exercises, reflection prompts, or strategies to practice between sessions so that therapy does not stay only in the conversation. The goal is for you to leave sessions with greater insight, clearer options, and steps you can apply in daily life.
