Getting to know Ruth Zalta

Beginning the therapeutic process can often feel bittersweet, ranging from exciting and intimidating to isolating, comforting, or even exposing. Having been a client myself for many years, I understand how integral it is to have a therapist who prioritizes your treatment goals and challenges the behavioral patterns that keep you entangled in your symptoms. I am a warm, patient, inquisitive, skilled, engaging, supportive, and passionate clinician who will metaphorically walk beside you week after week, closely examining what keeps you stuck in the past, afraid of the future, and detached from the here and now. I hold a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from City University of New York, Brooklyn College, which has equipped me with the knowledge and tools to support you effectively throughout your therapeutic journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm and open person that will engage you, take notes, and ask reflective questions to help develop insight and begin to question patterns of behavior.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first few sessions I will complete a psychosocial intake and gather as much information to better assess ones diagnoses and course of treatment. After the initial intake you can expect for me to engage in talk therapy while pulling from various modalities to assist in decreasing symptoms.

She is by far the best therapist I’ve ever had. She’s helped me learn coping skills for OCD, anxiety, and depression. For the last few years she has taught me to recognize patterns in my thoughts and compulsions and honestly helped me trust myself. I recommend anyone looking for a steady, caring therapist to make an appointment with her.
I have been working with Ruthy for quite a while now. She has the rare ability to simultaneously operate at different levels during every session - focusing on the situation presented, considering my overall goals and past experiences, and conversing with humor while providing real life examples and professionally grounded guidance with scientifically backed resources. Ruthy is professional, personal, considerate, caring, organized and clearly loves what she does, as it shows in her passion to help and support her patients. I cannot recommend working with Ruthy enough.
Ruthy is capable of holding a sincere and empathetic space while remaining lighthearted with a great sense of humor. I’ve find myself consistently both grounded and seen and since working with her, and I am so grateful to have found her practice. Thank you Ruthy !!
Dr Ruth Zalta is very kind and compassionate while still maintaining a high level of professionalism. Her guidance and treatment helped me immensely.
Ruth is an incredible provider. I have suffered from mental health issues and family trauma since I was six years old with rounds of therapists and specialists who only exacerbate the problem by trying to fix you. Ruth allows you to go on your own journey to healing with unyielding support and resources. When I decided it was time to be serious about anti depressants, she referred me to a PA where I was able to get a prescription right away. Even my family and friends notice the difference in me over the last three years. Ruth is a great therapist and will surely continue to flourish for those who need her.
Really understanding
Ruthy is down to earth and makes you feel immediately at ease. Her advice is practical, thoughtful and easy to put into practice. Highly recommend!
I cant express how grateful I am for working with Ruthy. Finding a therapist who you connect with and can trust is incredibly challenging, but Ruthy’s compassionate, understanding, and non-judgemental demeanor has absolutely changed my life. She took the time to understand how I communicate and think, and has always met me where I am. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a warm, progress-oriented and encouraging provider.
Ruthy is great! She’s thoughtful, encouraging, empathetic, and has really helped me tackle my struggles with anxiety. I truly look forward to speaking to her each week.
I have been seeing Ruthy for a little over 4 years now and she has been there for me through trauma, divorce, navigating a new relationship, pregnancy, and motherhood - big life milestones that can be incredibly overwhelming. She is incredibly easy to talk to and fosters a safe space where I can share the most vulnerable parts of myself. Ruthy is always guiding me in healthy coping mechanisms when it comes to ptsd, anxiety, depression, and intrusive thoughts. She has tremendously helped me become the best version of myself and I cannot thank her enough. Ruthy is a wonderful therapist!
Ruthy helped a lot with understanding my family issues and my role in it by providing a different perspective and leading me to consider how my view of it is changeable. She provided various resources including worksheets and book recommendations that were really helpful to me. She is genuine and honest, making her easy to trust and talk to.
I highly recommend Ruthy Zalta—she is a phenomenal therapist who is personal, warm, and empathetic. She is incredibly dedicated to all her patients, and also takes care to see all her patients holistically—not just focusing on their mental health state, but the current state of a patients overall holistic health/lifestyle. Often times mental heath is often separated/different from physical health, but Ruthy wisely sees the two often intertwined. I also highly recommend Ruthy because she is one of the few invaluable therapists who really goes beyond just diagnosis. Ruthy really takes care to try and help you find ways to empower yourself and your mental health beyond just your therapy sessions, by helping to provide tools, resources, and methods so that her patients feel more confident navigating their mental health journey in the present and beyond. Ruthy is also great because if any patient feels the need for an extra therapy session, she is very responsive, understanding, and accommodating.
Ruthy is in a word, Amazing.
Ruthy is the first mental health care provider I have ever seen and she worked to make me feel so comfortable during first appointment. She is compassionate, kind, funny and allows me to express myself without judgement. I know that anything I say she will fully absorb and help guide me towards a new frame of thinking or a great way to implement new ideas in my life. She has stuck by me with schedule changes due to college and has always given me the absolute best care! My life has absolutely changed for the better with her counsel and I would recommend her to anyone who asks for a mental health provider.
I've been Ruthy's patient for over two years and could not be more grateful to her. She is attentive, funny, caring and real. In sessions I feel I can be myself, warts and all. Yes, often that means Ruthy will call me on my BS, but I am of the opinion that every neurotic Episcopalian needs a no-nonsense Jew in their corner. I would particularly recommend Ruthy for anyone struggling with OCD and/or obsessive thinking. She has ample experience in that area and has been very helpful as we work to try and identify my obsessive/intrusive thoughts and to accept, rather than bury, them.
I love Ruthy so much that I barely want to write this review because I want to keep her to myself. Thank you for everything!
Ruthy provides the perfect balance of compassion and real-talk. She’s also really great at keeping sessions productive and on point. Would HIGHLY recommend for any therapy needs, and especially for patients with PTSD and depression.
