Getting to know Ryan Brooks Leslie

Hello! Welcome to my site. My name is Ryan Brooks Leslie, licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist. I'm glad you found me here. There are few situations in life comparable to being in therapy: a helping relationship based on mutual respect, honesty, humility, educated and objective guidance, and genuine connection to help you better navigate this thing we call "life." Being able to say anything without fear of judgment, reproach, or rejection allows you to truly face the obstacles that separate you from happiness and freedom—to be the best and most fulfilled version of yourself. I earned my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Pennsylvania Western University and have spent the better part of 15 years educating myself and honing my counseling skills to support people in this endeavor. I love being a therapist and have great confidence in my therapeutic skills and their benefit to you. I am experienced in addictions, trauma (EMDR—Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, improving social skills, existential life issues, and transitions. I have found that it is often a combination of forces within and without ourselves that create unique situations we need help with. While I have many methods to facilitate processing—talking, art therapy, mindfulness, EMDR—I believe you are the expert of your unique story and that you have many strengths to assist you in overcoming life’s challenges. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps toward change. I commend you for your effort, and I am here to support, empower, and be a fellow traveler on your journey. "The most powerful thing in the world is an idea whose time has come." – Victor Hugo

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect to be heard, but also have relevant input regarding your situation. In the first few sessions it's always about getting to know each other and seeing if we are a right fit. I offer any information I have on specific challenges or areas of concern. I often recommend books, journaling exercises, and communication practices which I believe would be helpful. I love counseling and am fascinated by people. This is why I became a therapist and find it fulfilling to learn about, and from my clients. As you and I get more familiar I will tailor a therapeutic plan for you, which could involve art therapy, EMDR, focusing on communication, and just plain old working through life situations.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Very open minded and concentrates on finding solutions to issues. Always seems genuinely invested in my care.
In my first session with Ryan I have been given confidence that this is the beginning of a fruitful journey. Prior to our session I had a feeling of anxiety, not knowing how things would go but that feeling disappeared a short time into our conversation. I'm excited for the future.
Ryan is kind, patient, attentive and professional. The background experience and counseling approaches listed in Ryan's profile stood out to me and have been a good match.
Clearly a very caring person that know how to help people in distress. I like that he both was able to talk about non medication ways of fixing anxiety as well as having psychiatrists that he would refer if medication felt necessary. Very good at getting to root issues and having different ways to go about working on issues.
In my short time with Ryan, I must say he has been incredibly beneficial for my own well being; I may not take away all the lessons from every session, but there has not been a week yet that I haven’t carried pieces of our conversations along with my own thoughts. I sincerely believe Ryan is not only interested in my well being, but (perhaps, most importantly) effective.
Truly wise and very kind. I like his approach and view on things. I’ve only had 5 sessions, and already feeling more confident, comfortable, and adjusted.
Ryan shows a lot of empathy for me, helps me reframe my problems in a way that makes it easier to come up with solutions. Very personable and warm, non-judgemental and empowering.
Doesn't just ask about how you've been recently. He follows up on previous topics of discussion, asks how certain practices you've established have been going, and works to build on his knowledge of his patients each session.
A great guy to speak to and share anything and everything with. Not judgemental at all. Insightful with a holistic, spiritual bent. An excellent therapist all around.
Ryan is very thoughtful in the way that he interacts with me when we are working through issues from my childhood and current concerns. He has a great wealth of knowledge about the 12 steps program and offering excellent advice through with the support of that program. I have also done EMDR several times and it has been both deeply connected to my trauma and helpful for me to work through painful experiences.
Very helpful
