Ryan Hawks, CMHC

Ryan Hawks, CMHC

Psychotherapist
UT
I started my career as a Recreation Therapist in Utah, challenging individuals to do things they were scared to try but that ultimately helped them grow. I took clients rock-climbing, rappelling, swimming, and canoeing, watching them stretch themselves through each experience. Building on that foundation, I returned to school and earned a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Phoenix. This expanded my opportunities immensely, and I’ve continued to use experiential activities to encourage personal growth. I’m a big believer in challenging you to take what we talk about and find ways to see life differently by giving yourself meaningful experiences. The majority of my 10 years in the mental health field has been with young adults with autism and Asperger’s, which has given me deep experience in teaching relationship skills. More specifically, in my 5 years as a counselor, I’ve worked closely with individuals dealing with pornography and sex addiction, and I also have experience working with trauma and mood disorders. The biggest lessons I’ve learned have come from my role as a father of four and being married to my wife for over a decade. I am a strong believer in a client-centered approach, which means the client has the answers—they just need someone to help them look at their challenges from a different perspective. I am a visual learner and use this approach in counseling whenever I can. While the online format doesn’t allow me to stretch you through rappelling or rock-climbing, I will find ways to help you overcome the challenges keeping you from your potential. I look forward to working with you!
