What should a new client know about working with you?

My aim is to provide a safe environment that allows patients to comfortably address their problems while prioritizing privacy and confidentiality. I recognize that each individual is unique and strive to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific needs and goals. I use Solution-Focused Therapy as my theoretical foundation guided by a strategic counseling model. I also incorporate Gottman Method Couples Therapy to provide research-based interventions used in couples counseling. In all cases, I use a trauma-informed approach in the event individuals have a history of trauma and recognize the role trauma may have played in their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After booking an appointment, I'll promptly contact you by phone or email and provide a link to our Client Portal for completing intake paperwork. For those using insurance, I'll guide you through setting up an account with Headway. It's important to complete these steps before our first session to ensure we can focus fully on your therapeutic needs right from the start. In our initial session, we will briefly review your intake paperwork and practice policies. This will be followed by an opportunity for you to address any questions or concerns you may have about me or the therapeutic process. We will then explore the reasons that brought you into therapy. By the end of this first session, I aim to identify some preliminary therapeutic goals for us to begin working toward. Subsequent sessions will focus on addressing the issues at hand, often involving discussions about difficulties encountered since the previous session and integrating them into your treatment plan. I believe that significant change occurs outside the therapy office, so I will frequently suggest short interventions, or "homework," to facilitate your progress. These interventions might involve making small changes in your daily routine, paying more attention to specific areas of your life, or approaching your thoughts from a different perspective. Throughout our work together, open communication is key. I encourage you to share your thoughts, feelings, and feedback during our sessions. This collaborative approach allows us to adjust and refine your treatment plan to best meet your evolving needs. This allows us to celebrate your progress, navigate challenges, and continuously work towards achieving your therapeutic goals.
