Getting to know Sabine Loriston

I bring more than 20 years of experience in education and leadership to my work as a mental health counselor. Throughout my career, I have served as a classroom teacher, school building administrator, and district-level leader, working closely with students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Much of my professional life has been dedicated to supporting teenagers as they navigate academic pressure, social challenges, identity development, and emotional stress. I have collaborated with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to create safe and supportive environments where adolescents feel seen and understood. Today, I integrate my deep understanding of teen development, family systems, and school dynamics into my counseling practice. I am passionate about helping young people and their families build resilience, confidence, and emotional clarity.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative approach. I understand that reaching out for therapy — especially as a teenager — can feel intimidating. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself. I have extensive experience supporting teens who are dealing with anxiety, academic stress, peer relationships, family conflict, self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions. I also work closely with parents to help strengthen communication and understanding at home. I believe teenagers thrive when they feel heard, respected, and empowered. Therapy with me focuses on building trust, developing practical coping tools, and helping young people better understand their emotions and strengths.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, I focus on getting to know you — your story, your goals, and what’s been weighing on you. With teens, I take time to build rapport and establish trust before moving into deeper work. When appropriate, I may involve parents in a collaborative and supportive way. Together, we develop a personalized plan that may include emotional regulation strategies, communication skills, problem-solving tools, and insight-oriented conversations. My background in school leadership allows me to understand the academic and social systems that often impact teens’ well-being. My goal is to help you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and equipped to handle challenges both inside and outside of school.
