Getting to know Sadie James

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, particularly experiences related to family of origin and attachment. While I work with adults of all ages, I have a special interest in supporting emerging adults, including college, graduate, and medical students, as they manage the emotional and relational challenges that can arise during these stages of life. My approach is collaborative, relational, and trauma-informed. I aim to create a space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences with curiosity and compassion, while also building practical tools for managing emotions and improving their overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel both hopeful and uncertain, and I want clients to know that all of those feelings are welcome. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself without judgment. I see therapy as a collaborative process, you are the expert on your own life, and I’m here to support you in making sense of your experiences. Together, we’ll explore how your past relationships and experiences may be influencing what you’re going through now, while also focusing on tools and strategies that can help you feel more grounded and supported in your day-to-day life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our early sessions, I focus on getting to know you, your experiences, your relationships, and what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk about your goals and what you hope to get out of the process, and move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. From there, our work often involves a combination of deeper exploration and practical skill-building. I draw from psychodynamic, relational, and attachment-based approaches to help build insight, while also integrating tools from CBT, DBT, and mindfulness to support emotional regulation and day-to-day coping. Throughout the process, I aim to build a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel supported as you grow, heal, and make meaningful changes.
