Sally Flores, LMFT

Sally Flores, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I enjoy learning and have throughout my life been a Licensed Vocational Nurse, a credentialed adult education teacher and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I decided to study counseling because when I was teaching a Parent Observation Class, the parents would ask me questions that I did feel qualified to answer. As a result, I decided to take psychology courses. These classes provided me the opportunity to obtain my License in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have been a practicing LMFT for more nearly seventeen years since then. I am able to accommodate clients that speak Spanish only as well as those that speak English only. I enjoy treating a population from seven years of age to those who are in their elderly years. Many of my clients have experienced traumatic events during their childhood years. These traumatic events typically go on to impede clients' ability to function normally in adulthood. Clients have presented with conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders and distorted thinking.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My initial approach to therapy is to learn as much as I can about the client and to begin formulating a trusting relationship. The therapist-client relationship is of primary importance to the client being able to disclose his thoughts and feelings in a forthright manner. The importance of therapy is to match the correct therapeutic modality to the needs of the client. For example, a client who is not accustomed to expressing their thoughts and feelings with another person will require a modality that is different from a client that is able to express themselves easily. Over the past seventeen years, I have had the opportunity to learn a wide variety of treatment modalities. It is actually possible that during a therapy session, more than one treatment modality may be required to help the client.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients can expect me to describe the counseling modality that they are to receive during sessions. During the initial session, the client will have the opportunity to address his or her goals for the counseling sessions. The client is to describe the main issues for which he or she is seeking therapy. I will provide a time frame for the required therapy sessions that will be needed for the client to achieve his or her goals. Client will also be required to complete an initial assessment questionnaire discussing the client's history. The client also typically completes a Multi-generational Geno-gram during the first session of therapy.
