Samantha Meck, LCAT

Psychotherapist
NY
I believe that when words fall short, creativity offers a powerful way to express and communicate difficult emotions, feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Art making and other forms of creative expression-such as music, dance, movement, drama, and writing-allow the subconscious to surface, enabling healing to occur. I use a wide range of creative approaches tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. As a person-centered clinician, I value trust, empathy, compassion, and an overall acceptance of all aspects of a person, meeting them where they are in the moment. I am a trauma-informed therapist with experience providing interventions to help process trauma. My master's degree in Art Therapy from Cedar Crest College, along with my thesis on neuroscience and art therapy, gave me a deep understanding of how effective art making and creativity are for healing trauma and its effects on the brain. Most of my career has been dedicated to working with adolescents and youth, supporting identity formation, emotional management, effective coping skills, self-expression, trauma processing, increased insight and awareness, and empowerment. I provide traditional psychotherapy services alongside a variety of alternative interventions designed to fit the unique needs of each individual seeking treatment. I am a registered, licensed, and board-certified Art Therapist, primarily working through a studio-based approach. My undergraduate education included a major in art therapy and a minor in psychology, which laid the foundation for my continued graduate studies and clinical work.
