Samantha Nilsson, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CT
My name is Samantha, and I am a wife, mother of two amazing kids ages 2 and 4, and a mental health therapist with nearly 11 years of experience. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University. Much of what I provide to my clients comes not only from my education and years of practice but also from my own personal experience. Like many of my clients, I have faced the stressors and challenges life throws at us, and I believe that to confidently help people move through these challenges, I must truly understand what it feels like and what helps us get to the other side. One of my specialties is working with mothers in all phases of life. I have a passion for helping women find the balance between motherhood and womanhood, which can sometimes become blurry when our sole focus is caring for others. Whether you are a new mom or a seasoned one, I want to help you find your joy and build the life you want?one that includes meeting your own needs as well. I strongly believe in mindfulness and self-care, whatever that may look like for you. For me, it is reading and crafting. For you, it may be something different, but I strive to help all my clients find ways to bring calm and balance to their lives by cultivating something that brings them peace. I also utilize cognitive behavioral therapy in my work by helping clients identify the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors involved in their difficulties. The more we understand what is going on inside us, the better able we are to find ways to shift and cope through life's challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I always use my first sessions with clients to get a clear understanding of what they are struggling with as well as what their life looks like in general; who are your supports, what is important to you, where are you struggling, etc. My sessions are casual in that I always strive for them to feel like just a conversation. We will talk about your goals and be clear about what you want to accomplish. We will also explore what timeframe feels good to you and when you would know you are ready to move on from therapy if that is a goal.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
