Getting to know Samuel (Sam) Rosenthal

Accepting new clients. I am an individual and relationship/couples therapist licensed in New York and New Jersey, working with clients experiencing anxiety, shame, low self-esteem, and challenges around intimacy, communication, and identity. I am also experienced working with issues related to family-of-origin, LGBTQ+ identities, and non-traditional partnerships. I will contact you before our first appointment to discuss your interest in therapy and complete intake forms.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is nonjudgmental, emotionally-focused, and curious about the deeper processes that shape your inner world and connections with others. Together, we will explore how your current struggles may connect to past experiences, uncover the patterns that shape your challenges, and work toward meaningful change. Before our first session, we will briefly speak on the phone to talk about what brings you to therapy and your expectations for our work together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I favor a Relational Psychodynamic approach. I enjoy this deeper and longer-term approach and find my clients do too. I encourage you to speak unfiltered as I pose reflective questions to help you connect with your emotions and find language for painful or uncomfortable experiences. My priority is to create a collaborative and affirming space where you feel safe to be vulnerable. From the start, you can expect openness and authenticity as we build a therapeutic relationship.
