Getting to know Sandi Martinez Monterroso

Sandi Martinez Monterroso, MSW, is a Clinical Social Worker who uses a straightforward, practical approach to help clients understand their experiences and make meaningful changes. She employs Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) to support clients in developing skills they can use in real life- not just during sessions. Sandi’s interest in the field grew from her own therapy experience during her undergraduate studies at California State University, Fullerton. Concepts like “Name it to tame it, not to shame it” and “the power of silence” became tools she relied on personally before incorporating them into her clinical approach. These experiences continue to shape her direct, strengths-based style. In her practice, Sandi focuses on helping clients better understand their patterns, identify obstacles, and practice strategies that lead them toward the life they want. She values straightforward communication, curiosity, and honest collaboration. Her clinical approach emphasizes shared decision-making and the development of skills aligned with each client’s goals. Sandi continually refines her clinical skills and expands her experience to serve clients with precision and purpose. Her work is driven by a genuine interest in how people think, adapt, and grow, and by a dedication to providing care rooted in clear reasoning and effective methods. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy is grounded in three principles that I hold as truths. 1. A good therapist is aware that they do not have the answers but the tools to help the client find the answers. 2. Life is full of lessons that constantly repeat themselves. These lessons are designed to teach us the tools needed to be the best versions of ourselves. 3. Everything we experience is designed for our good. It is our job to find the good in challenges and grow into the best possible version of ourselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At our first meeting, I want to truly understand what brought you here. I often rely on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because of its transformative power. Together, we'll uncover how your thoughts shape your emotions. I'm here to support and guide you, helping you challenge those thoughts. Let's work side by side, paving your path to greater emotional peace and clarity.
