Getting to know Sandra Brackenridge

I know that you would prefer a therapist who can understand your reality and what you experience during a regular day. As a therapist, I am deeply interested in the mental health of healthcare professionals of all stripes, as well as their significant others. Having worked in these environments, I understand the stressors that lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and breakdowns in relationships. My unique experience includes supporting veterinary professionals, animal welfare workers, and rescue or sanctuary volunteers and employees. These are difficult jobs both physically and emotionally, and your experience is often misconstrued and misunderstood. I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work from Tulane University. I was a professor of social work for 23 years and continue to supervise social workers toward their clinical licensure. I have guided at least 40 social workers across three states, which has led some to consider me the "therapist's therapist." Throughout my teaching and supervision, I have continued providing therapy to clients with various concerns, allowing me to stay current in many approaches and techniques. I have taught, published, and presented extensively on grief and bereavement, as well as mental health in healthcare fields-especially veterinary professionals. Additionally, I have participated in and published work on the mental health impact of natural disasters, including the current pandemic and several hurricanes. If you are looking for a mature therapist who can empathically respond to your unique situation, I would love to meet you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

After your first session, I expect you to feel that you have found someone who finally understands without having to explain every small thing about your profession or volunteering. It usually takes more than one session to truly get to know you, but together we will figure out a comfortable and desirable direction to take in therapy which will help you feel better over time.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
