Getting to know Santina Bianco

Adler University was important to me because of its emphasis on social justice and community engagement. Earning my Master's in Counseling there deepened my commitment to these values. Being part of the Chicago community has opened my eyes, especially since I am originally from a small town. Being a small fish in a big pond has provided me with opportunities and experiences that have helped me grow as a counselor. I have gained therapeutic experience working in residential settings such as Chicago Public Schools, juvenile residential centers, and crisis centers. My passion involves working with children, adolescents, and young adults while promoting diversity. I provide individual, group, and family therapy. My experience includes treating a range of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), adjustment disorder, and anger.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style of therapy is a collaborative approach. I first work on building rapport with my clients by finding common interests, displaying empathy, and using humor. I am trained in different therapy modalities and work with my clients to find the best fit. The ones I am trained in are Client centered therapy, DBT, CBT, Adlerian therapy, Narrative therapy, and Play therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session depends on what the clients want out of the session. Usually sessions last anywhere from 45 minutes to the entire hour. During the beginning of the session I give my clients the space to talk about what happened during the past week. If we have specific goals we are working on I leave space in the second half of the session to work on those goals.
