Getting to know Sara Abels

Are you interested in healing old patterns and awakening to your authentic self? Are you tired of constantly trying to fit in or be the person everyone else wants you to be? I am a licensed professional counselor with a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Illinois State University and 5 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I work in community mental health as well as in private practice. In my private practice, I see clients remotely and am currently accepting new clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a licensed professional counselor, I specialize in trauma treatment and PTSD, perinatal mental health, birth story healing, parenting, divorce, and adolescent and family therapy. I work with individuals ages 12 and older and families of all ages. My expertise is in EMDR therapy although I often incorporate interventions such as somatic work, mindfulness practices, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, parts work, and polyvagal theory.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer an intuitive approach to therapy drawing on my experiences as a counselor, yoga teacher, educator, and parent. I recognize the importance of conversation and connection and welcome inquiries and questions regarding my practice to determine if we are a good fit. I’m honored to have crossed paths with you and look forward to supporting you on your journey of becoming “Authentically Me!”
