Sara Matlack, LISW-S

Psychotherapist
35 W Olentangy St, Powell, OH
I am a millennial mom and therapist that began my training from personal experience. I took that experience and turned into a way to help others. I work with individuals who need to learn how to breathe and navigate grief, sadness and loneliness in areas of life (Parenting, retirement, loss, trauma, caregiving). In the last 14 years I graduated with my masters from University of Kentucky and worked in many areas of clinical social work. In every area I find that we all seek happiness and hope. I am the person in the corner cheering clients on to find happiness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I get it, starting therapy is hard and finding someone is tricky. My office is a safe place and I do not judge. My goal is to provide you with support, kindness and place to talk about things you cannot tell those closest to you. I have skills that have helped many others before you. I have clients that have stayed with me for years because they trust me and know I genuinely want the best for them. I see clients virtually and in person.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

n my office there is No pressure. No need to have a perfectly articulated reason for being there. Our first session is a chance to breathe — to show up, take a look around, and decide if this feels like a space you are looking for. I'll tell you a little about myself and how I work, and then we start where you are in life. Tell me what's been hard. Tell me what you're goals are. Or tell me you're not sure yet — that's completely fine too. My job in that first hour isn't to fix anything. It's to make sure you leave feeling like you were actually heard, maybe for the first time in a while. Because that's what everything else gets built on. We're in this together — starting right now.
