Getting to know Sarah Dawson

Feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or like you are on the outside looking in? Do you feel unseen or unheard and want a therapist that strives to really see and hear you? I approach all clients as an interaction between two people, not just you talking. I often offer feedback, insights, and sometimes direction. I love to laugh and swear with my clients, and I sometimes even cry with them. Most importantly, I see you as a unique and resilient individual with a story to tell and a healing journey ahead. It would be my honor to share this journey with you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adults on an array of concerns using variety of therapeutic interventions depending on the needs of the individual client. I have experience working with a variety of mental health issues, including: traumatic events (PTSD), developmental and relational trauma, abuse (including narcissistic abuse), sexual abuse, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, Gender Dysphoria, ADHD, and more. I am EMDR trained and Certified in Basic Accelerated Resolution Therapy. I also incorporate aspects of Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Attachment theory, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered & PolyVagal theory to help promote healing and self-compassion. Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) has also been used to treat other conditions other than those listed above. What is your typical process for working with clients?

When appropriate I also love using humor and/or a good swear word in the healing process. Sometimes things or so absurd that all you can do is laugh or the best way to describe something is a choice swear word. So, if you find yourself trying to work through a trauma, mood disorder, anxiety, grief/loss, co-occurring disorder, self-harm behaviors, low self-esteem, interpersonal violence, attachment concerns, or gender transitioning; I am here to help.
