What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is the most important thing in therapy. I want my clients to feel safe, respected, understood, and cared for as we work together. I welcome feedback and believe open communication is key to successful therapy. I have worked in private practice, community mental health centers, acute treatment settings, emergency rooms, residential treatment centers, and done case management. These experiences have allowed me to work with a wide variety of clients, from all walks of life, for both short and long-term treatment. My goal is for clients to start each session confidently knowing that I am always on their side and they will always be met with compassion. Healing happens when we feel safe enough to take the risks required to grow. I strive to create a space that is free of judgment, believes in hope when situations feel hopeless, and offers unconditional acceptance.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session will be an intake. I will ask questions about why you are seeking therapy, what goals you might have, your current situation, and how your mental health is impacting you. I will also gather information about any previous mental health treatment you may have had. If you are new to therapy I will explain what to expect and how the therapeutic process works. I will explain my approach to therapy and allow time for you to ask questions. Following the intake, I want to take some time getting to know you, and you can get to know me and my approach to therapy, while continuing to decide if I am the right fit for you. We will talk more about what you hope to get out of therapy, or, if you are not sure, we can decide together. The following sessions, we will start working toward your goals. I will always meet you where you are, and allow you to set the pace of our sessions. We will ease into talking about the hard stuff, if that's what you need. If you want to dive right in, I am all for it. I know those first few sessions can be anxiety provoking. I have done my own work in therapy and know what it is like to be where you are.
