Getting to know Sarah Kim

My name is Sarah Kim, LCSW. I am a licensed clinical social worker with more than ten years of experience providing individual and family therapy to adolescents and adults. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Los Angeles, and my Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine. Before starting my private practice, I worked within the public mental health system. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused therapy, as much of my work has centered on treating trauma. My passion for assisting children with trauma and significant emotional disturbances led me to provide treatment to children exposed to trauma, implementing trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy with both youths and adults. I also specialize in treating adults who have experienced depression and anxiety. Continuing my career, I worked directly for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, where I was placed in the specialized foster care unit. In this role, I collaborated with the Department of Children and Family Services to assess children and youth. I also provided consultation and attended team meetings to offer recommendations regarding the child’s mental health needs. My rich professional and personal experience allows me to tailor treatment to your unique needs, providing culturally sensitive services.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapeutic approach is empathic and sensitive, yet goal oriented, in which I want to help my clients to achieve the goals they have determined. I believe in working from a strengths-based perspective and looking at the system of the family. I am an eclectic therapist, meaning that I use several therapeutic techniques, but I also specialize in systems therapy, Bowenian family therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
