Sarah Kwawu, ATR-BC

Psychotherapist
NY
My clients are often looking for a deeper connection to themselves and others. Reaching for healing, adjusting to a new identity, or ready to let go of something from the past. Many come to therapy feeling disconnected, frustrated, creatively blocked, emotionally exhausted, or just have a sense that something isn't right. I work with children, teens, adults, parents and couples; all hoping to move closer to their real self and process in a safe space. I see my work as creative, person centered, spiritual and systemic. I believe in the importance of relationships, social justice, authenticity and community. My clients are often looking for a deeper connection to themselves and others. What should a new client know about working with you?

I am also a wife and mother, compassionate community member, returned peace corps volunteer, spiritually aligned Quaker, and international traveler. I started my career in NYC after attending Pratt institute, and have practiced in both West and North Africa before returning to the US.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use artwork, writing and imagery, with a blend of insight and attachment lens theories including IFS, EFT and Jungian psychology to help clients deeply engage with themselves and others. I emphatically and enthusiastically support clients of all diverse backgrounds, and believe in affirming care for all individuals. I offer a warm but direct approach. I am an art therapist with additional training in family therapy.
