Getting to know Sarah Lesko

Hi there! I'm an Attachment-focused private practice psychotherapist specializing in Couples and Relationship Therapy in-person in El Dorado Hills and virtually throughout California. I see couples and families in addition to individuals wanting to explore relational issues, including the relationship they have with themselves. I have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), considered to be one of the most effective approaches with the highest success rates for clients with relationship issues. I have additional training in working with racial identity issues and parents in the perinatal phase of life as well as in providing inclusive and affirming therapy to folx who identify as LGBTQ+. Despite using an Attachment-based lens in my therapeutic work, I also draw from other Evidence Based Practices including but not limited to EFT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems and Play Therapy. I have additional training in Neurosequential Model in Reflection and Supervision. *At the moment, I am not accepting individual child therapy clients. **I am not able to provide medication management.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I hold a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of CA. As a second-generation Chinese American with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging (DEIBJ) coaching, I am deeply sensitive to the ways in which our communities fail to support BIPOC folks as well as other marginalized groups. As a cishet person and LGBTQ+ ally, I've sought intensive training on how best to support LGBTQIA2S+ people, and do so with the utmost respect and humility. Lastly, as a parent of two littles and with a deep curiosity in attachment theory, I love to support adults as they become partners and parents. I've been described by others as warm, humorous and highly attuned. While I don't shy away from being direct when needed, I go at my clients' pace.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When we first begin working together, we will go through an assessment process where I will take the time to get to know you and build a relationship with you. Following that, we will decide together on what therapy will look like and how often we will meet. I typically recommend meeting weekly. Once you've begun to see some progress, every other week frequency can be accommodated.
