“I enjoy talking with Sarah. She is very friendly and nonjudgemental, which helps me feel comfortable opening up to her. She presents a clear treatment plan and we always work out a goal or homework to practice before the next session. If I get uncomfortable talking about something we just take a break and talk about something light for a while. She is very respectful of boundaries and needs. Highly recommend!”

Getting to know Sarah Looney

Part of what led me to become a therapist was my own experience of how difficult it can be to find meaningful, accessible support when you need it. Navigating my own mental health journey helped me recognize the importance of having someone who truly listens, understands, and shows up consistently. I became a therapist because I wanted to be that person for others, to help ensure people don’t feel alone or unsupported when they’re seeking help. Throughout my life, a wide range of personal and professional experiences have shaped who I am today and strengthened my ability to connect with others in a genuine and meaningful way. I worked in a community mental health agency, where I gained extensive experience across multiple areas of mental health. Although the work was demanding, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve individuals in various capacities and settings. That experience helped shape my clinical foundation and reinforced my commitment to this field. Along the way, I have learned to embrace my own neurodivergence and mental health experiences and use them as sources of insight, self-awareness, and strength. I am a mother of three children, and my experiences as a parent have deeply shaped my understanding of resilience, advocacy, and emotional complexity. My oldest child is also neurodivergent and lives with complex congenital heart disease, which has required multiple heart surgeries. These experiences, along with navigating remarriage and a second journey through IVF, have given me a profound appreciation for uncertainty, grief, hope, and perseverance. They have also strengthened my capacity to sit with others through difficult, vulnerable, and emotionally layered experiences. I share this to give you a sense of who I am and how I approach therapy, and to reflect the values of presence, compassion, and authenticity that guide my work with clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I may be a good fit for you if you are an adult who: Struggles with depression, anxiety, trauma, confidence, or emotional regulation Has a spicy brain, such as ADHD, and feels burned out, disorganized, or misunderstood Is navigating identity, boundaries, communication, living a healthy lifestyle, or major life transitions Wants virtual therapy that is relaxed, supportive, practical, and collaborative Prefers a therapist who accepts insurance

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first session, we’ll review what brings you to therapy, explore relevant background information, and discuss your goals for treatment. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences and help identify areas of focus. We’ll also talk about my approach to therapy and what working together may look like. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and comfortable. There’s no expectation to share everything right away, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.
