What should a new client know about working with you?

Every person is on a unique journey in life, so your counseling experience will be unique to you. I use an integrative, culturally-sensitive approach, pulling from different counseling techniques and theories to help you feel comfortable and to meet your needs and goals. As a person-centered therapist, I believe you have a primary role in your own healing process. We will work together to make the best counseling plan for you! I use EMDR, talk therapy, unconditional positive regard, and empathy to help you find your path to healing. EMDR is an effective, evidence-based modality proven to help people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I also tend to use techniques from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and others. I use a positive approach to incorporate your strengths and struggles to work towards the changes that you want in your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll start talking about what brought you to therapy so that I can get to know you and your story. From there, we’ll talk about your struggles, goals, and strengths. This will help us to plan the best course of treatment for you, together. Throughout the therapy process, we’ll build rapport and trust. The more honest you are about your present and changing symptoms, struggles, successes, and other life events, the better I can help you and the quicker you’ll see results! I typically end sessions with a guided mindfulness exercise. My clients leave sessions feeling lighter and less activated by anxiety and trauma. It is important to me that you feel understood by me, and more importantly, centered and connected to your true self. You can learn strategies to live your best life and process your thoughts and feelings to heal from the past. You owe it to yourself!
