Getting to know Sarah Serles

Hi there, I'm Sarah! Hi! My name is Sarah Serles. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Indiana. I received my master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Purdue University. I also have certificates in art therapy and addiction counseling and am TFCBT trained. I have been working in the field for 7 years, mainly with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, and addiction. I love hearing people's stories and helping them find positives to improve their situation. My approach I have had success using CBT with many clients. I think it's great teaching how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connect and watching clients learn to make those connections on their own. My focus I have worked with clients involved in foster care for a long time. I see many young adults and youth who have struggled with finding their place in the world. I have also worked with many clients dealing with substance use. I have three brothers in the military and feel a close connection with veterans. I am also a new mom and can relate to the struggles of work-life balance. My communication style I strive to be laid back and go with the flow. I love little details and try to remember things brought up to incorporate into what we discuss in the current session. My journey to mental healthcare I couldn't pass microbiology! Somewhat kidding. I have always been soft-spoken, which made me a good listener. I wanted to learn about many populations, so I changed careers to social work. I worked with children with disabilities. I wanted to do more, so I went back to school for my master's and love hearing people's stories and how they got to where they are. I love seeing clients flourish, and that keeps me going. My goals for you I like being fluid with goal setting. We will make one in the beginning but can evolve it based on new information or changes in your life.
