Getting to know Sarah Seymour

I am committed to creating a supportive, respectful, and collaborative therapeutic environment where patients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. I believe that each individual is the expert in their own life, and I work from a strength-based, person-centered perspective to help patients build insight, develop coping skills, and move toward meaningful change. My approach integrates evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy to support individuals navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, and personal growth. I value the therapeutic alliance and strive to ensure each patient feels heard, understood, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. My clinical experience includes work in outpatient mental health settings, community-based initiatives, and collaboration with diverse populations. As a doctoral student in Pace University’s Mental Health Counseling PhD program, I continue to expand my clinical knowledge through advanced training, research, and ongoing professional development. I believe that progress often occurs through small, consistent steps, and that therapy can provide a safe space for reflection, growth, and positive change. My goal is to help patients gain greater self-understanding, build resilience, and feel supported as they work toward becoming the best version of themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and respected. I strive to create an environment where you can openly share your experiences at your own pace. I understand that beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar or even uncomfortable at first, so I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship that promotes trust, safety, and collaboration. My approach is person-centered and strength-based, meaning I view you as the expert in your own life. I work collaboratively with you to better understand your goals, identify patterns, and develop practical strategies to help you navigate challenges. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy to support meaningful and realistic progress. In our sessions, you can expect thoughtful conversation, guided reflection, and skill-building tailored to your individual needs. I believe progress often occurs through small, consistent steps, and that therapy is a process that evolves over time. My goal is to help you gain insight, build confidence, and feel empowered as you work toward personal growth and improved well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with an initial intake session where we discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your personal history, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from treatment. This session also provides an opportunity for us to get to know each other, begin building a comfortable therapeutic relationship, and identify initial goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. In ongoing sessions, we work collaboratively to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and patterns that may be impacting your well-being. I use a person-centered and strength-based approach, integrating evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Sessions often include open discussion, guided reflection, skill-building, and practical strategies that you can apply in your daily life. We may focus on developing coping skills, improving self-awareness, strengthening communication, managing stress or anxiety, navigating life transitions, or working through personal challenges at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I regularly check in regarding your progress and adjust our approach as needed to ensure therapy remains supportive, relevant, and aligned with your goals. Throughout the process, I aim to provide a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel empowered to grow, gain insight, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.
