Sarah treats patients starting 3 years old. Sarah earned her Master of Arts in Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a certificate in Play Therapy. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies at the same institution, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Sarah has experience counseling a range of issues, including child abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, self-esteem, and trauma. She is passionate about helping her clients find freedom and empowerment in acceptance and authenticity of self. Sarah believes in the efficacy of a person-centered approach to treatment, which acknowledges both the client’s inherent bent towards positive growth and their role as the expert on their unique lived experience. Sarah facilitates client growth through her commitment to empathic understanding, unconditional positive regard for the client, and always being genuine in the therapeutic relationship. Sarah enjoys working with clients of all ages but has considerable experience and specializes in working with children ages 2-10 through Child Centered Play Therapy. She also enjoys working with teens and adults, pulling in techniques from different therapeutic modalities to suit the unique needs of each client (CBT, DBT, expressive art activities, feminist therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy). In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their four rescue dogs. She practices self-care through music, reading, yoga, the occasional mountain getaway, and laughing every chance she gets.
