Savannah Henderson, LPCC

Psychotherapist
3505 Camino del Rio S, Ste 338, San Diego, CA
When I first became a therapist, I thought I wanted to work in early childhood mental health. I was interested in play therapy and helping children process emotions and build healthy relationships with their caregivers. My educational background in education, child development, and clinical counseling helped me gain an understanding of attachment theory and how attachment with our early caregivers impacts us throughout our lifespan. I became passionate about helping others understand how our early models of emotional regulation and conflict management stem from our parents and caregivers, and how we carry intergenerational patterns, perspectives, and trauma into the present. I made a pivot into working with adults, both individually and couples. My attachment lens is still very present in my work. I utilize emotion-focused therapy, a form of talk therapy that draws from attachment theory and helps you understand and recognize negative emotional processing and reactions that cause distress in your life and your relationships. Emotion-focused therapy centers the experiences of you, the client, and is designed to help you build safe, secure connection with others. If this sounds like something you would benefit from, I may be the right therapist for you.
