“Scott is a great listener - from the start he created a comfortable atmosphere where I felt safe to be vulnerable and open. I'm new to therapy so I didn't know what I didn't know, but I quickly felt comfortable. After just a few sessions with Scott I noticed a positive change within myself that impacted my personal and work relationships. I look forward to continuing the journey with Scott.”

“Looking back to my time with Scott Alpert, I was coming off several failures at different levels of treatment. I was very discouraged and had limited motivation. I found Scott Alpert to have an approach that felt like pulling layers off an onion and getting to deeper and deeper levels of consciousness. I started recognizing problem areas and developed a treatment plan to address these areas and build skills. Moving 5 years into the future today I work at a mental health clinic in Washington State and I am giving back to my clients what I learned from this provider.”

Getting to know Scott Alpert

I welcome you to my practice and am dedicated to you and to self-improvement. Quantity of services is not the goal in my practice; I place all my efforts into the QUALITY of clinical services provided. I am able to devote attention and time to each client due to being partially retired after over 30 years of service with the state of Maryland. I now find it possible to work at my own pace and rate with my clients, no longer pressured or "bullied" by the big bosses who focus almost solely on production and revenue. I limit my caseload to no more than 10 active clients at any time. I find psychotherapy to be an art, and not every therapist has the God-given ability to perform the art of psychotherapy and healing. Over the past 30 years, I strongly feel that I have proven to my clients and to myself that I have this ability to connect with my clients on a clinical basis and to understand their particular viewpoints. This talent is further refined and enhanced by years of education and experience. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, and a Certificate in Substance Abuse from Loyola University Maryland. My natural personality typically makes adults, children, and dogs-yes, dogs; check me out on Rover-feel a calming confidence to share in my presence.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Over the years I have developed a structural design for Psychotherapy aimed and directed at the individual. The foundation of this design incorporates scientically researched and widely accepted techniques and philosophies. These include Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive, Adlerian, EMDR and Hypnosis. I am eclectic in everything I do and always open minded.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A very comprehensive assessment and evaluation with a thorough design to detect past trauma, unresolved life events, personality development. A working hypothesis is made a shared with the client and with client written consent this hypothesis can be shared with other concerned individuals. Next step is to make a WRITTEN treatment plan and to identify problem areas in the domains Biology, psychology, social and spiritual areas. Next step after identification is to write up both short and long term goals and steps to take to achieve success in those identified areas. We then work together and develop the "muscles" of the brain. Finally we work on identifying success and hoe to maintain that success as an individual.
