Getting to know Sean Elliott

I am a lifelong resident of Chicago and received my Master's in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015. I have worked with various age groups, from college-aged young adults to senior citizens. During this time, I have learned that no two people are the same and that everyone must be treated individually and holistically. My approach I approach the therapeutic process with compassion and empathy, treating everyone with respect and dignity-qualities I bring to our sessions. During sessions, I use a mix of motivational interviewing, compassion, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), among other appropriate techniques. My focus Above all else, I value creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and welcoming environment. I take a client-centered, collaborative approach, meaning that you set the goals and the pace of therapy while I support you in your journey. My communication style I use soft, non-combative, and non-accusatorial language. I listen empathetically and speak in a supportive manner, pointing out patterns and asking questions to help you learn more about yourself. My journey to therapy It was my own strong desire to help people, combined with my experiences and struggles and the therapists who have helped me throughout my life, that led me to pursue a career in social work. My goals for you Because each person is unique, I recognize there is no one goal appropriate for everyone. This is why I work with you to define your own priorities and set your own goals. Above all, I want to help you navigate life with more happiness, confidence, and support. My first session with you The first session can be difficult because seeking therapy is a scary first step. I will introduce myself and ask questions about you, your life, and what brought you here so we can get to know each other and determine if I am the right person for you.
